Nasser Hussain, the former England skipper, is pleased with the way his side has responded at the Headingley Test, raising hopes for a strong English comeback in the offing for the decider at the Lord’s starting in just over a week’s time.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Hussain reckoned that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473, despite a late scare in the innings with the hosts losing 4 wickets for 106 runs while chasing 253 runs from 39 over to level the series 1-1.
“Monday showed they can do more than compete with South Africa. This series is not over,” wrote the former English captain.
Hussain was in particular, impressed with the way the English bowling has come to the fray and rattled an imposing batting lineup, who just over a fortnight ago pounded them with a mammoth 637 for 2 during the Oval Test, which the home side lost by an innings defeat.
“This was an important day for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s powerful batting line-up under sustained pressure,” said the former captain.
South Africa put up an impressive 120-run opening partnership but soon the visitors mislaid their innings and lost 10 wickets by adding another 138 runs in less than 31 overs, with the last six falling  for a paltry 49 runs.
After a dismal performance with the ball in the first Test, the odds have seemed to turn in favour of the home side as the Lord’s Test will determine the outcome of the series as well as the new top-ranked Test team in the world.
“England must treat the last Test as they have treated all their matches in the past couple of years - as a game which they have the best chance of winning if they pick their normal side,” the former right-handed batsman said.
Hussain believes that unless a fast track awaits the Englishmen at Lord’s, there is a need to bring in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501, who has a good record at the venue with 27 wickets at 24.62.
“Unless the track is a belter, it means a four-man attack - and the return of Graeme Swann,” Hussain concluded.
