Nastja Kolar executes Alla Kudryavtseva to breeze into 2nd round – NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies 2011
Slovenian qualifier Nastja Kolar knocked off Russian Alla Kudryavtseva with double breadsticks to advance into the second round of the NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies 2011, a clay court tournament held in Bad Gastein, Austria. She barely
sweated throughout the match to register an assuring 6-1, 6-1 victory over the 23-year-old Russian on Tuesday.
World number 309, Kolar displayed solid tennis to down the Russian, ranked 233 places above her in just under an hour on their first meeting. The Slovene not only secured a second round spot but also took lead in the head-to-head
series by 1-0 against Kudryavtseva.
16-year-old Slovene made a stunning start in the opening set as she broke Kudryavtseva’s serve in the very first game to take the lead. She lost her serve in the next game but went berserk after that as she reeled off remaining
five games in a row to clinch the opener with a breadstick.
Kolar produced an amazing 58 percent first serve share as opposed to Russian’s 32 percent and registered an impressive 71 percent win on it. Regardless of failing to save the only breakpoint conceded, the Slovene put the cherry
on the set by cashing in half of the eight breakpoint chances to her advantage to help win comfortably.
The teenager carried her savage mode into the final set and after Kudryavtseva held her opening serve in the second game, she unleashed her true colours to wipe out remaining five games in a row.
Kolar smashed five ferocious aces in this set and earned a fabulous 92 percent win on her higher first serve share to seal the set with a breadstick again.
The youngster is in great shape this season as she won the title at Maribor ITF and made semi-final berths at Brunie, Zagreb and Padova before entering her first WTA tournament here.
Up next for the Slovene is the eight seeded Russian Ksenia Pervak who downed French Alize Cornet to reach this spot.
The seeded Russian exchanged three breaks and clobbered equal first serve share to drag the opener to a tie-breaker. Pervak dominated in it to clinch the set with a 7-6(3) win.
She again produced a similar first serve share of 67 percent in the second set. In addition to this, the Russian saved six out of eight breakpoints conceded and converted four out of nine breakpoint opportunities to her advantage
to seal the set by winning six games to two.
Cornet couldn’t hold on to her single serve in the second set and committed several unforced errors and eleven double faults.
20-year-old Russian eventually sealed the deal in two hours and twenty-two minutes and advanced in this event.
