Nastja Kolar slashes Lenka Jurikova to advance into main draw – NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies 2011
Slovenia’s Nastja Kolar flashed past Lenka Jurikova with a breadstick to breeze into the main draw of the NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies Open 2011, an International level WTA Tournament held in Bad Gastein, Austria. She barely faced
any resistance from the 20-year-old Slovak and registered a 6-2, 6-1 victory on Monday.
World number 309, Kolar displayed nerves of steel to stun world number 249, Jurikova in straight sets on their second meeting. She downed the Slovak in three sets at Zagreb earlier this season and continued her winning ways in
this event to extend the lead in the head-to-head series by 2-0.
16-year-old, who is bidding to become the next tennis top ten player in near future, thundered into the opening set as she broke the Slovak’s serve four times to win the set with a 6-2 score line. Although she failed to save both
breakpoints conceded, she geared up to break Jurikova entire serves.
Kolar charged up in the final set and with a help from capitalising a breakpoint chance to her advantage, she clinched with a breadstick. The Slovene faced zero breakpoint and produced an amazing first serve share in this set to
earn the glory.
In this forty-three minutes match, the Slovene clobbered a lower first serve share of 59 percent as compared to Jurikova’s 69 percent but registered a plausible 65 percent win on it. In addition to this, she converted five out
of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage and earned an impressive return point share of 69 percent.
Kolar is in awesome form this season as she made semi-final berths at Brunie, Zagreb and Padova ITF events. She also clinched the title at Maribor ITF before making an appearance here.
Up next for the qualifier is the Russian Alla Kudryavtseva who is much more experienced and a higher ranked player. Kolar needs to perfect her shots and commit less unforced errors to overpower the Russian.
Qualifying eighth seed Paula Ormaechea will be joining the Slovene in the main draw. The Argentinean trashed American Gail Brodsky in straight sets to book her place in the first round.
Ormaechea saved seven out of nine breakpoints conceded through her amazing agility and converted five out of six breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to seal the match with a 6-3, 6-4 score line. It took the Argentinean one
and half hour to outmuscle Brodsky. She also took full advantage of the several unforced errors and seven double faults the American committed and smoothly advanced in the tournament.
