NatWest Professional Cricketers Assocation awards: Neil Carter declared PCA player of the year
South Africa-born Neil Carter, who plays for Warwickshire in the English domestic cricket league, has been named as the Professional Cricketers Association's (PCA) Player of the Year.
The 35-year-old Carter became the first http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 seamer over the past eight years to pick up 51 wickets in the
County Championship, helping his side secure a place in the County Championship Division One. With a tally of 617 runs, Neil Carter finished his
County Championship season as Warwickshire’s third-highest run-scorer.
Carter also played a key role in bagging Warwickshire Bears’ Clydesdale Bank 40 title last weekend. He also helped the Bears reach the quarter finals of the 2010 Friends Provident T20 tournament. His promising county season
across all forms of game secured him the top spot in the Most Valued Player rankings the PCA.
His efforts in all formats of cricket were duly rewarded when he was announced as the PCA Player of The Year with 647.45 points. It was an outstanding turnaround for a cricketer who was told twice – in 2004 and in 2007 -
by Warwickshire County that he was free and should find another club for himself. Carter was followed by
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867’s Adil Rashid who had secured 600.2 points.
Somerset’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991 stands No. 3 on the PCA rankings table with 578.4 points.
Recalling those tough days when Warwickshire had shown him the door, Carter said, "Those weren't easy times and there were other counties interested in me, but I backed myself, things went my way and Warwickshire changed
their mind about me." He added, "I've performed better than my stats suggest over the last couple of seasons but things went well for me in the first game against
Yorkshire and they got better and better.”
Speaking about the Player of the Year award, Carter mulled, “The MVP award suggests that statistics don't lie. The Player of the Year Award is a great accolade because it means that your efforts are recognised and appreciated
by your fellow professionals."
The 35 years old Carter, who will be heading home today has signed a new two-year contract with the Bears.
Yorkshire’s batsman Adam Lyth was voted the NatWest PCA Young Cricketer of the Year after logging 2000 plus runs in all forms of county cricket this season. 22 year old Lyth was the first cricketer to compile
a tally of 1,000 first-class runs in a season. He topped the run-charts of the County Championship Division One after scoring 1,509 runs.
Eoin Morgan’s one-day form was honoured with the NatWest ODI Player of the Year award. Morgan’s team-mate, spinner Graeme Swann, was named
England's Player of the summer. Graeme Swann, who stands at No. 3 in the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers, has also been nominated for the International Cricket Council's Cricketer of the Year award.
Adil http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 while Adil Rashid’s
Yorkshire team-mate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacques-Rudolph-c1619 was named as Clydesdale Bank 40 Player of the Year.
The ECB Special Award went to Johnny Dennis while Peter http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Walker-c95903 was given the Special Merit Award.
