As the third game of the NatWest Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series, between England Women and Australia Women, came to an end, on June 25, 2011, the England Women came out victorious. The hosts defeated the Australia Women team with a 22 runs win claiming
all 10 wickets.
As the Australian’s chose to field after winning the toss, the English squad produced a competitive total of 136 runs in their first innings. The slightly troubling target for the Australians came after the hosts delivered an aggressive batting performance.
While the English Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charlotte-Marie-Edwards-c50507, led her troops on to the field, the Australians opened their innings with batters S Nitschke and LJ Poulton.
The openers dragged a 29 runs partnership with a decent run rate.
By the middle of the fourth over, the English opening bowler, KH Brunt, secured Nitschke’s wicket as the first for her team. Brunt’s delivery caught the off-stump as the batter attempted to drive.
MM Lanning was the next player to join Poulton on the crease. The pair added another 10 runs to the team’s total before Poulton’s innings came to an end. The player was caught at fine leg by the English Captain, off HL Colvin’s delivery.
The Australian’s second loss came in the 7th over with 39 runs added to the total. In comparison, the English team lost their first wicket in the closing of the 9th over while retaining a total of 59.

With consecutive loss of wickets, the troubled Australians sighted a little hope in their fifth batter, JE Cameron. The player carried on a 22-run partnership with Lanning.
Yet again, the English bowlers did not allow the duo to go http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362, in a Leg before Wicket (LBW) appeal, brought Cameron’s innings to an end. The Australian batter added 13 runs to her side including 2 fours. Cameron was Australia’s
fourth loss.
By now, Australia had attained a total of 68 runs with the loss of four wickets. The team was left with 60 balls and 68 more runs to cover.
LC Sthalekar and RL Haynes were the next two losses for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 Women. The former added 14 runs to the total while the later produced just 3.
With the loss of the 7th wicket, the Australian innings had already entered the final quarter of the game.
Team Captain, JM Fields, and tail enders, SJ Coyte, CR Smith and EA Osborne, could manage to contribute meager, single digits to the total. Except for Osborne, all other players were knocked out by the start of the 19th over of the innings.
Smith’s final wicket marked the England Women team’s victory. The hosts delivered an exceptional performance.
DN Wyatt was England’s leading wicket taker. The player secured 3 wickets in just 2 overs. KH Brunt, A Brindle, HL Colvin, and LA Marsh all earned single wickets each.
The English team’s victory has placed them on the top of the tournament. The spot was previously held by their opponents Australia Women.
