Natalia Ishchenko - Romashina Svetlana win Women’s Duet Routine Crown: 2011 FINA World Championships
Russia dominated the sixth day of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Synchronised Swimming in Shanghai, China, on Friday, July 22. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s Duet Routine final, where Russia’s Natalia Ishchenko and Romashina Svetlana
put up a wonderful show and grabbed the gold medal with a winning score of 98.410 points.
More importantly, this is the third successive golden crown in the meet for Russia. The Russian duo previously took home two gold medals in the Women’s Duet Routines at the 2007 and 2009 editions of the FINA World Championships, in Melbourne and Rome, respectively.
In the meantime, Jiang Tingting and Jiang Wenwen of China snared the silver medal with an impressive mark of 96.810 points.
After the meet, Jiang Wenwen said, “We practiced the routine every day and gave it all out in the competition so the performance is passionate. The competition is really important to us because we just resumed training three months ago. I'm grateful to my
younger sister Tingting and my coach. The competition is also a chance for us to learn from other swimmers.”
China had earlier captured the bronze medal in the Duet Routine meet at the 2009 FINA World Championships.
Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes of Spain grabbed the bronze medal with a total score of 96.500 points. At the 2007 and 2009 editions of the Championships, the Spanish team had snagged two silver titles. Elise Marcotte and Gagnon Boudreau of Canada finished
fourth with 94.950 points, while Yukiko Inui and Chisa Kobayashi of Japan settled fifth with a mark of 92.710 points.
Ukraine’s Daria Iushko and Kseniya Sydorenko wound up sixth with 91.580 points, whereas, Giulia Lapi and Mariangela Perrupato of Italy earned seventh place honours with a total score of 89.800 points.
Great Britain’s Olivia Allison and Jenna Randall grabbed eighth spot with a mark of 88.460 points and Sara Labrousse of France finished ninth with 88.100 points. Greece and United Stated were placed tenth and eleventh with 86.950 and 86.190 points, respectively.
Brazil finished twelfth with a total score of 85.770 points.
