Natalia Ishchenko and Romashina Svetlana win Duet Technical routine crown – FINA World Championships
Day two of the FINA World Championships in synchronised swimming started in stunning fashion with the scintillating performance of Russian swimmers in Shanghai, China, on Monday, July 18.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s Duet Technical routine event. In the corresponding category, Russian pair of Natalia Ishchenko and Romashina Svetlana snared the gold medal with a sterling score of 98.20 points.
Meanwhile, Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou of China secured the silver medal with a winning score of 96.50 points, while Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes of Spain grabbed the bronze title with a total mark of 95.40 points.
After the corresponding race, Ishchenko stated, “The secret is our coach plus hard work. I like this sport, and we will participate in the Olympic Games. We will work hard, but we can't say what the goal. I have no secret to maintain the top position. Thanks
to Chinese spectators.”
The win in the corresponding meet was the second gold title of the event for Natalia Ishchenko. Earlier, she won the Women’s solo technical routine title with a triumphant score of 98.30 points.
Ishchenko is a well-known synchronised swimmer of Russia, who has expertise in several synchronised swimming styles such as team free routine combination, duet technical, solo free, duet free and solo technical routines. She has won eleven gold medals at
the FINA World Championships during the period of 2005-2007.
Natalia secured the gold medal in the team free routine combination at the 2005 World Championships, in Montreal. She nabbed four gold medals in the free routine combination, solo technical, team technical and team free routines at the 2007 World Championships,
in Melbourne. Besides, she also won four gold medals in the Women’s solo technical, solo free, duet free and team free routines at the 2009 World Championships, in Rome.
In the meantime, Canada’s Gagnon Boudreau and Elise Marcotte finished fourth with 94.10 points, whereas, Japan’s Yukiko Inui and Chisa Kobayashi earned the fifth place honours with 92.80 points. Olivia Allison and Jenna Randall of Great Britain wound up
tenth with a total score of 87.30 points.
