FINA World Championships
Russian pair, Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina impressed the arena with their performance in Synchronized Swimming on day one of the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 17.
The session conducted the Women’s technical duet preliminary meet, where the Russian pair of Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina was the favourite to clinch the battle. Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou of China were reckoned as the second seed, whereas, the
pair of Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes of Spain was predicted to earn third place honours.
Ishchenko and Romashina won the technical duet preliminary round with a sterling score of 97.50 points. While speaking on their individual performances in the technical duet routine, Ishchenko stated, “Our coach told us we made some mistakes and we must
not do them in the final. The swimmers from Spain and China are very strong, and we will try our best in the final.”
In the meantime, China’s Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou finished second with a total score of 95.80 points, while Spanish pair of Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes rounded out the top three with a total score of 94.40 points.
On the other hand, Elise Marcotte and Gagnon Boudreau of Canada wound up fourth with 93.90 points, whereas, the pair of Yukiko Inui and Chisa Kobayashi of Japan were placed fifth with 92.60 points. Daria Iushko and kseniya Sydorenko of Ukraine finished sixth
with a score of 90.90 points. Giulia Lapi and Mariangela Perrupato of Italy earned seventh place honours with a total score of 89.90, while Mary Killman and Lyssa Wallace of United States grabbed eighth spot with 89.00 points.
The performance of Great Britain’s synchronised swimmers, Olivia Allison and Jenna Randall was not up to the mark in the technical duet routine, as they finished tenth with a score of 87.80 points.
Earlier, Natalia Ishchenko snagged the gold medal in the Women’s solo technical routine with a winning score of 98.30 points, while Huang Xuechen finished second with 96.50 points. Andrea Fuentes settled for third spot on the podium with 95.30 points.
