Natalia Ishchenko clinches Women’s solo technical routine title: Day one – FINA World Championships
Day one of the FINA World Championships in Synchronised Swimming got-off to a flying start with the remarkable performance of Russian synchronised swimmer, Natalia Ishchenko, in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 17.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s solo technical routine final. In the corresponding race, Natalia Ishchenko took home the golden crown with an impressive score of 98.30 points. The title is the third win for the Russian synchronised swimmer
in the solo technical routine.
Earlier, she secured the gold medal in the respective meet at the 2007 World Championships, in Melbourne. She clinched her second title in the same category at the 2009 World Championships, in Rome.
While speaking about her individual performance in the solo technical routine final, Ishchenko said, “My coach said my performance was good. It was not my highest score. I will take part in solo, duets and team this year, so I'm tired.”
Huang Xuechen of China claimed the silver title with a total score of 96.50 points. The win also handed China with its first ever medal in the solo technical routine in synchronised swimming. With the current performance displayed by Chinese swimmers in
the meet, the nation is sure to perform well in the category in the future.
After the race, second position holder, Huang said, “The latter part of my show was not that perfect. I didn't expect a silver medal. Gold? Maybe next time. Natalia always has a strong expression.”
In the meantime, Andrea Fuentes of Spain secured the bronze medal with a total score of 95.30 points. Fuentes was elated with her individual performance in the solo technical routine.

Gagnon Boudreau of Canada wound up fourth with a total score of 94.50 points, whereas, Yumi Adachi of Japan earned the fifth place honours with 92.60 points. Lolita Ananasova of Ukraine was placed sixth with a total score of 90.70 points. Despoina Solomou and
Jenna Randall of Great Britain finished the meet at the seventh and eighth spots, with 89.40 and 89.00 points, respectively.
