Natalia Ishchenko secures gold medal in Solo Routine meet - 2011 FINA World Championships
Russia’s Natalia Ishchenko stunned the crowd in Shanghai on day four of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Synchronised Swimming, on Wednesday, July 20.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s Solo Routine final. In the corresponding meet, Ishchenko put up her best effort and snared the golden crown with a sterling mark of 98.550 points.
After the event, Ishchenko stated, “I am happy with my performance. Today, I made three wonderful performances (in solo preliminaries, teams preliminaries and solo final). The secret of our achievement is that we train for many hours, and our country's team
is always the best.”
More importantly, this is her third consecutive gold title in the category of Synchronised Swimming in this World Championship. Earlier she won the gold medal in the Women’s Solo Technical Routine final with a winning score of 98.30 points, while she secured
her second gold medal in the Duet Technical Routine along with her partner Romashina Svetlana with 98.20 points.
In the meantime, Andrea Fuentes of Spain took home the silver title in the Solo Routine with an impressive score of 96.520 points. After the race, Fuentes said that she was satisfied with her effort as she was able to put up a spirited show in the arena.
Sun Wenyan of China captured the bronze medal with a total score of 95.840 points. While speaking about her performance, Wenyan said, “I felt tired in the final, but compared to this morning's qualifying session, my performance tonight is more steady, especially
in the spinning part. I felt nervous but had no pressure. I tried my best in the final.”
In the corresponding race, Gagnon Boudreau of Canada wound up fourth with 94.910 points, whereas, Yumi Adachi of Japan earned the fifth place honours with a mark of 92.810 points. Lolita Ananasova of Ukraine finished sixth with 91.550 points and Linda Cerruti
of Italy was placed seventh with a score of 89.950 points. Great Britain’s Jenna Randall grabbed eighth spot with a total score of 88.880 points, while Despoina Solomou of Greece finished ninth with 88.590 points.
