Natalie Coughlin and Nathan Adrian win gold medals – Swimming news
Natalie Coughlin and Nathan Adrian of California Aquatics won gold medals in the events of Women and Men’s 50m freestyle on last day of the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships & World Championship Trials in Indianapolis on Saturday, June 29.
The crowd was eager to see dominating forms of their favourite swimmers in the 50m freestyle discipline and undoubtedly, they enjoyed the gruelling efforts of both swimmers in the shortest freestyle discipline.
The 30-year-old Coughlin experienced strong resistance from the fastest qualifying swimmer, Simone Manuel in the playoff but with her alluring efforts, she managed to occupy the title. She remained only an inch ahead of her closest competitor as she touched
the wall with the timing of 24.97 seconds.
Manuel, who stayed only 0.04 seconds slower and posted a time of 25.01 seconds for silver medal, trailed the champion.
With her alluring efforts, she remained 0.04 seconds ahead of Chris Magnuson of Tucson Ford Deal, who was only 0.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall for bronze medal with the timing of 25.05 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Margo Geer of Tucson Ford Deal, who was only a touch apart and settled on the wall with the timing of 25.13 seconds.
Geer was chased by Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA, who was 0.05 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 25.18 seconds for fifth place.
Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower and posted an effort of 25.19 seconds, obtained sixth spot of the race.
In contrast, Adrian dominated the similar event in Men’s corner. Adrian stayed 0.23 seconds ahead of his closest competitor and secured the title with the timing of 21.47 seconds.
Anthony Ervin of California Aquatics, who reached the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 21.70 seconds, followed him.
Ervin was traced by Josh Schneider of SwimCinnati-OH, who was 0.17 seconds slower and clocked a time of 21.87 seconds for third place.
Cullen Jones of SwimMAC Carolina and Jimmy Feigen of Longhorn Aquatics, who was 0.01 seconds apart and ended their swims in a joint finish with an effort of 21.88 seconds, obtained fourth fastest spot of the race.
Furthermore, Adrian and Coughlin expressed happiness over their efforts in the race and will represent USA at the 2013 World Championships.
