Natalie Du Toit clinches Women’s 100m back-stroke multi-disability crown: 2011 All African Games
Day five of the 2011 All African Games ended with the wonderful swim of Natalie Du Toit of South Africa in Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Friday, September 9. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s and Men’s 100m back-stroke multi-disability
final races.
In the Women’s 100m multi-disability final race, South Africa's Natalie Du Toit hit the wall in 1 minute and 11.73 seconds to win the golden crown on the podium. After the swim, Du Toit was contented due to her splash in the competition. In the corresponding
race, Shireen Sapiro of South Africa earned silver medal with a stunning mark of 1 minute and 10.86 seconds.
Irene A Bandeira of Angola settled for bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 57.66 seconds. Emily A Gray of South Africa was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 17.99 seconds, while Blessing E Kingdom of Nigeria was placed fifth in a time of 2 minutes
and 09.24 seconds. Anne Wacuka of Kenya earned sixth place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 40.64 seconds.
On the other hand, the Men’s 100m back-stroke crown was taken over by South Africa's Achmat Hassiem in a time of 1 minute and 11.39 seconds. After the final heat, Hassiem was pleased due to his swim. Kevin G Waller secured the silver medal on the podium
by posting a matchless time of 1 minute and 18.62 seconds, while Silvio M Lopes of Angola earned bronze in a time of 1 minute and 22.59 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Titilayo A Badmus of Nigeria was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 29.08 seconds and Firmino D Camota of Angola earned fifth place honours in a time of 1 minute and 31.55 seconds. Boye Khadim wound up sixth in a time of 1
minute and 29.83 seconds. Last, but not the least, Ebis Preye of Nigeria settled seventh in a time of 1 minute and 37.56 seconds.
The arena gave a huge ovation to all contestants of the race due to their mind boggling and efficient swims, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session's completion.
