Natalie Du Toit wins Women’s 100m freestyle title: Day four – 2011 All African Games
Day four of the 2011 All African Games closed with the scintillating splash of South Africa's swimmer, Natalie Du Toit at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, September 8. The final session conducted the Women’s and Men’s 100m
freestyle multi-disability events.
In the corresponding splash, Natalie Du Toit of South Africa powered the wall in 1 minute and 03.24 seconds and took home the gold medal for her nation. Shireen Sapiro of South Africa earned silver medal on the podium by posting a stunning time of 1 minute
and 07.62 seconds, while her compatriot, Emily A Gray snared bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 08.77 seconds.
Vera Toma Agbeere of Nigeria earned fourth place honours with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 11.23 seconds, while Irene A Bandeira of Angola settled fifth with a time of 1 minute and 51.64 seconds. Blessing E Kingdom of Nigeria wound up seventh with
a time of 1 minute and 51.31 seconds. Last, but not the least, Anne Wacuka of Kenya earned eighth position in a time of 2 minutes and 06.32 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 100m freestyle multi-disability crown was taken over by Kevin Paul of South Africa with a victorious mark of 55.44 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Achmat Hassiem of South Africa earned silver medal on the podium by posting an impressive
time of 55.65 seconds and his compatriot, Kevin G Waller settled for bronze in a time of 1 minute and 02.92 seconds.
Innocent A Teifa of Nigeria was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 18.81 seconds, while Titilayo A Badmus of Nigeria rounded out the top five in a time of 1 minute and 08.20 seconds. Silvio M Lopes of Angola settled sixth in a time of 1 minute and 14.85
seconds, whereas, Ebis Preye finished seventh in a time of 1 minute and 21.50 seconds.
The arena gave a huge ovation to all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals after the end of the day’s session.
