Natalie Gulbis all set for showdown at Kingsmill Championship 2012
American Natalie Gulbis may be regretting not finishing the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 in grand style, but she has apparently set her sights on the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012, slated to be held
from September 6-9, at the Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia.
Gulbis has been trying to end her protracted victory drought since her maiden victory at the Evian Masters in 2007. The American star has not been able to impress her fans, but she has repeatedly vowed to get
back in her winning form in the 2012 season.
Gulbis, a professional golfer since 2001, is not someone who does not crave the spotlight and she concedes that her journey from an amateur golfer to an experienced LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association)
star has not been an easy one.
It has also taken the professional golfer some time to adjust to her near celebrity status because golf, apparently, is not the only thing on her mind. The 29-year-old Californian has posed for several top-notch
fashion magazines —something that has earned her enough popularity despite her not being able to make a name for herself in women’s golf.
When Gulbis sets foot on Kingsmill Resort, River Course, on September 6, she will not only face a tough field featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA contenders, but will also have to live up to the expectations
of American spectators who want the national players to start winning again.
Asian golfers have emerged as the biggest threat in recent months as they are going places and have been able to win most of the events since the start of the current season.
Given her performance in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, it is hard to predict how Gulbis is going to fare against players like Cristie Kerr and South Korean Se Ri Pak who have recorded victories at the
Kingsmill Championship.
Analysts said that the Kingsmill Championship has made a comeback after being suspended for two years. The last edition of the tournament was staged in 2009, which Kerr won.
Players have appreciated efforts of the officials of the Kingsmill Championship to reshape the event and provide them a chance to experience good golf in Virginia — a hot spot for the sport.
