Natalie Gulbis finishes tied for fourth in France
American Natalie Gulbis carded an overall 274 in the Evian Masters 2012 to finish tied for the fourth position along with Chinese Shanshan Feng.
Gulbis, who was not among the hot favourite contenders for the Evian Masters, beat the odds and managed to record a solid finish at the Prestigious Evian-les-Bains, France.
Gulbis kicked off the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament in an impressive style and stayed calm and composed throughout the four days. She posted a 69 in the opening round, reflecting that
she was determined to remain in contention till the final moments of the match.
The second round was also lucky for the American star as she was able to play balanced strokes on most of the holes. Her scored for the round was 69.
Commentators said that Gulbis did not give too many chances to her rivals, and was aware of the possible resistance by other contenders.
The 29-year-old golfer knew that the only way to stay safe in the tournament was to avoid bogeys and too many lousy strokes.
Although the hot weather took its toll on almost all the contenders in the roster, Gulbis was one of the few players who fought back searing heat by staying focused on their game.
The LPGA titan picked up pace in the third round as she posted a 68. Other contenders who gave her a tough time were South Korean Inbee Park, who won the tournament after carding an overall 271, Australian
Karrie Webb, American Stacy Lewis and Shanshan Feng of China.
Gulbis spoke to the media at the end of the tournament and expressed her feelings about how she tackled the pressure on the course.
“Rough start definitely in the beginning.  I was very mechanical when I started.  We got to 5 and we started trying to figure out my swing.  (Indiscernible) Just go out and just trust it.  Let's try to hit
shots. It was significantly better the bottom two thirds,” the American prodigy said.
She added that she had to face a tough field that featured players known for their amazing skills. “I mean, at the top of the leaderboard there was a group players that are not only playing well, but really
good at making a ton of birdies.  So I just tried to make as many as I could and take my chances”.
