Natalie Gulbis seeks to end victory drought at Hawaii
Natalie Gulbis, who stunned her fans in 2007 after winning her first LPGA title at the Evian Masters, is seeking to end her protracted victory drought at the LPGA Lotte Championship, slated to start on April 18-21, at Ko Olina Golf Club, Hawaii.
Better known as the hottest golf celeb, Gulbis has been having trouble finding form for the last 3 years. She recorded her career’s best performance in the 2007 Evian Masters, where she carved out her first LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) triumph
in the playoffs.
Although pumped up and ready to prove her worth at Hawaii this week, analysts said that Gulbis has a long way to go if she really wants to revamp her game.
The 29-year-old American has mostly been in the headlines due to off-course issues, and this is what, analysts said, has been taking a toll on her professional career.
Known as a s*x symbol in women’s golf, Gulbis has been involved in several promotional shoots that have earned her a distinct reputation among other players.
She recently stunned golf fans after doing a body-painting shoot in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
The American star had to face a barrage of probing questions after the shoot, but she said that she was happy with what she did.
“Well, I was really grateful to be a part of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I mean, anyone who has ever done swimsuit or fashion modelling, or as an athlete, just to be invited is a huge honour. It’s something I’ve wanted
to be a part of for quite a few years, and I was so excited when they asked me to be a part of it,” Gulbis said.
When asked if she regretted shooting for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Gulbis shrugged off and said that she was happy as long as it did not affect her golf.
However, analysts said that despite her bold stature in modelling, the field at the $1.7 million Lotte Championship may give her a hard time, as it is featuring giants like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
Gulbis performed well in the first major tournament of the 2012 season — Kraft Nabisco Championship, as she finished tied for the 8th.
