Natalie Jones dominates MC 200m IM at the 2011 British Gas Swimming Championships:
Day six
Day six of the 2011 British Gas Swimming Championships started with the Women’s MC 200m Individual Medley at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. The championship is being conducted to select swimmers for Britain’s Swimming Team to compete at the 2011 Shanghai
World Championships.
Colchester’s Natalie Jones dominated the event with her wonderful swim in a time of 3:13.47 minutes, ahead of Ellie Simmonds and Claire Cashmore, who finished in 3:16.36 and 3:38.79 minutes, respectively. Jones scored 907 points against Simmonds 895 and
Cashmore’s 807 points.
The event was followed by MC Men’s 200m Individual Medley, where Sacha Kindred scored 934 points in 2:45.94 minutes. He was followed by Sam Haynd and Thomas young, who scored 803 and 792 points, respectively.
The next event was the Women’s 100m freestyle, in which Fran Halsall dominated her swim with a wonderful timing of 55.01 seconds. Her victory under a world qualification time standard led to her selection in Britain’s team to compete at the Shanghai Championships.
She was just ahead of her team-member, Amy Smith, who touched home in a time of 55.04 seconds followed by Rebecca turner in 55.86 seconds.
In the Men’s 200m back-stroke, James Goddard conquered the race with a four second lead over second finisher, Xavier Mohammed. Goddard touched the wall in a time of 1:57.08 minutes against Xavier’s 2:01.71 minutes effort. The third spot was secured by Chris
Walker Hebborn in 2:01.94 minutes.
A total of 15 British swimmers participated in the next event, which was the Women’s 50m butterfly semi-final. Rachael Kelly of Royal Wolv was the fastest to qualify for the final in 27.43 seconds, followed by Sian Harkin and Lucy Worral in a time of 27.62
and 27.29 seconds, respectively.
The next event was the semi-final of the Men’s 50m butterfly, where Adam brown was the fastest swimmer in 22.40 seconds ahead of Simon Burnett and Owen Morgan, who touched the wall in 22.63 and 22.69 seconds, respectively.
In the final of the Women’s 200m breast-stroke, Stacey Tadd won the gold medal in 2:28.99 minutes followed by Molly Renshaw and Kate Hutchinson, who touched the finishing wall in a time of 2:30.45 and 2:31.96 minutes, respectively.
Stephanie Proud was the fastest swimmer to qualify for the Women’s 200m back-stroke in 2:11.26 minutes. She was followed by Rachel Lefley and Karley Mann in 2:12.70 and 2:12.71 minutes, respectively.
The last event of the night was the Men’s 200m breast-stroke, where Michael Jamieson won the gold medal in a time of 2:10.42 minutes followed by Andrew Willis and Kristopher Gilchrist in 2:11.13 and 2:11.43 minutes, respectively.
