Natalie du Toit secures Women’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Natalie du Toit of South Africa secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in S9 category on day six of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, September 4.
The South African swimmer impressed her supporters by clinching gold medal of the distant freestyle event. Du Toit spoiled the party of her opponents and proved her eligibility for the title.
With her astonishing efforts, the South African swimmer enjoyed a lead of 15 metres over her toughest challenger and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 30.18 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was chased by Stephanie Millward of Great Britain, who remained almost 10 seconds away from her and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 40.01 seconds.
Millward was traced by Ellie Cole of Australia, who suffered a deficit of 2.86 seconds and transpired on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 42.87 seconds.
Cole was chased by Amy Marren of Great Britain, who was nearly eight seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 50.79 seconds.
Subsequently, Marren was followed by Christiane Reppe of Germany, who stayed 3.14 seconds slower from her and finished fifth in the event by producing a time of 4 minutes and 53.93 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Lauren Steadman of Great Britain, who stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 55.17 seconds.
Steadman was trailed by Emily Gray of South Africa, who occupied seventh position of the event and submitted a time of 4 minutes and 59.77 seconds.
Last position of the swim was obtained by Elizabeth Stone of USA, who stayed nearly three seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 5 minutes and 02.76 seconds.
Furthermore, Du Toit received massive appreciation from the crowd and collected medal for her victory after the event.
