Natalie du Toit wins Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Natalie du Toit of South Africa won gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly in S9 category on first day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
The South African swimmer remained prominently ahead of her opponents throughout the swim and transpired on the finishing blockade for the title of the event.
Du Toit stayed half body length ahead of her strongest challenger and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 09.30 seconds.
The champion was chased by Sarai Gascon of Spain, who was 0.49 seconds slower and hit the wall for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 09.79 seconds.
The Spanish swimmer was trailed by Elizabeth Stone of USA, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and hit the wall for third position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 10.10 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was secured by Ellie Cole of Australia, who remained 0.30 seconds apart and emerged on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was traced by Stephanie Millward of Great Britain, who stayed one and a half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing wall as fifth best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 12.01 seconds.
The British swimmer was chased by Paulina Wozniak of Poland, who stayed half body length slower from overpowering her former finisher and hit the wall for sixth position with a timing of 1 minute and 12.52 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was secured by Ellen Keane of Ireland, who stayed considerably slower from upsetting her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 14.04 seconds.
The Irish swimmer was followed by Claire Cashmore of Great Britain, who stayed 0.52 seconds slower and ended her race in eighth best place by posting a time of 1 minute and 14.56 seconds.
Du Toit was extremely pleased with her victory and collected medal after the event.
