Nataliia Prologaieva snares Women’s 50m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Nataliia Prologaieva of Ukraine snared gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle in S5 category on day one of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
The Ukrainian swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the shortest freestyle discipline as she rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for the crown of the event.
With her epic pace, Prologaieva remained more than half a body length ahead of her strongest challenger and hit the wall for gold medal with a timing of 35.88 seconds.
She was followed by Teresa Perales of Spain, who remained 0.62 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall as second fastest finisher with a timing of 36.50 seconds.
Perales was chased by Inbal Pezaro of Israel, who stayed 1.39 seconds away from her former finisher and climbed the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 37.89 seconds.
The Israeli swimmer was traced by Joana Maria Silva of Brazil, who stayed just an inch slower from overpowering her former finisher and clocked a time of 38.11 seconds for fourth position.
Subsequently, Viktoriia Savtsova of Ukraine proved her audacity for fifth fastest spot of the race, as she remained 0.39 seconds behind and reported a time of 38.50 seconds.
Savtsova was chased by Katalin Engelhardt of Hungary, who remained nearly six seconds slower from her former finisher and settled on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 44.06 seconds.
The Hungarian swimmer was chased by Simone Fragoso of Portugal, who stayed 0.72 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as seventh best finisher with a timing of 44.78 seconds.
Last position of the event was secured by Lisette Teunissen of Netherlands, who tried hard to upset her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as eighth finisher by producing a time of 44.82 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was extremely pleased with her performance in the single lap freestyle event and collected her accolade at the victory ceremony of the event. Furthermore, Prologaieva also expressed her desire of continuing her dominance in future events.
