Nate Marquardt: Win over Tyron Woodley is a great accomplishment – UFC News
Nate Marquardt, Strikeforce’s new welterweight champion, is happy at his impressive win over Tyron Woodley. In a recent media interaction, he commented it is his time to shine, adding that he trained hard for the bout and believes the win to be a great accomplishment.
Nate made his Strikeforce debut recently against Tyron Woodley, co-headlining the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy pay-per-view. During the five-round battle, Nate outclassed Tyron substantially and collected an impressive fourth-round knockout win.
The bout seemed to be a one-sided sparring session since Tyron was unable to put forth a resistive stance. It was Nate’s well-targeted strikes that stunned Woodley and made him limp throughout the bout.
Before the moment when Tyron received the powerful kick, Woodley did connect some good left-right combinations but it seemed like Nate was immune to them as he did not show any kind of sluggishness or weakness despite receiving the powerful blows.
In the fourth round, Nate grabbed Tyron and threw him on the octagon floor just to batter the Missouri lad with his powerful fists and blade-sharp elbows. The bout-referee after realising that Tyron has nothing left in his mutilated body halted the bout
denoting it as a technical knockout stoppage.
After the emphatic win, Nate while sharing his thoughts commented that it is a new start for him, adding that he did work extremely hard for the bout. Also known as ‘The Great’, Nate was of the view that he always thought of himself as the best in the world
and the current title win has just affirmed the hypothesis.
Nate stated, “I really feel like it's my time. I'm one of the best in the world, and actually, I feel like I'm the best in the world, the best welterweight.” When asked as to how he felt while taking on Tyron, the champion commented, “I felt like he was
trying to finish me off and he was using a lot of energy. That's kind of where the experience came into play. I was just able to weather the storm and as soon as he started to slow down, I decided to get out.”
Later on, summarising the whole scenario, Nate praised Woodley and stated, “I trained hard for it, and it's a great accomplishment. Tyron's a very tough guy, a very skilled world-class fighter.”
This was Nate’s 32nd career win whereas Tyron who was on an undefeated streak has received his first ever career loss and unfortunately via brutal knockout.
