Nate McLouth lifts Baltimore Orioles to famous 4-3 win against Chicago White Sox – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles showed great determination and fighting ability as they edged the Chicago White Sox 4-3 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday, August 27 in the opening game of their four match series.
Orioles handled their nerves brilliantly in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. White Sox, on the other hand, should be given credit for the fight they showed but the Orioles were too hot to handle on Monday.
Wei Yin Chen pitched six solid innings, giving up just four hits and two runs while striking-out eight batters. Pedro Strop grabbed his fifth win of the season after he allowed three hits and a run in the eighth. Closer Jim Johnson pitched the scoreless
ninth for his 40th save of the season.
Designated hitter Lew Ford provided Orioles with a kind of start they were hoping for. He homered to right in the second inning to put his side on the board.
Nate McLouth also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash with a walk and a two run home-run in the eighth, helping Baltimore comeback from behind to snatch an incredible win.
"This is as good of a club as I've ever had about staying in the moment," said manager Buck Showalter, now 173-173 since being hired on August 3, 2010. "That's a challenge when you are around so many things that aren't really realistic, to stay together
and challenge the things that really are important."
"I sure didn't want it to go straight over the plate, which is where it went," said Chicago’s Brett Myers who gave up the go ahead home run in the eighth. "I wish I could have that one pitch back, but you know that isn't going to happen."
With their impressive win against the White Sox, the Orioles moved to second place on American League East Division standings, four games behind the leaders New York Yankees.
Manager Buck Showalter will be very pleased with what he has seen from the Orioles this season and it will be interesting to see if he can lead Baltimore to the AL East Division title after almost a decade.
