  1. Its sad to think that he has all that opportunity and talent and he doesnt use it when there are so many who would kill for it.

He was probably pressured into itas well. And It must be hard living in his fathers and brothers shadow.

  2. Yeah its a big waste of talent, but its not all bad for Geelong they have a great replacement for him Tom Hawkins can step staight into the side

  3. shame but what you do, im sure if his heart is not in it, he has done the right thing. maybe he wants an easier league so he can just a bit of fun again, who really knows.

  4. Poor Nathan Ablett is copping stick because he no longer wants to play AFL. He is 'stupid' in some eyes & should not play at a lower level in other eyes.

That is the typical reaction from those who have never played sport at any reasonable level - probably never played at all!

Ablett just does not want to go through the grind of 11 months of training a year & all the restrictions that go with it. He is obviously much more relaxed & less stressed in enjoying a game of VFL footy with his mates & having a bit of social life away from media scrutiny.

His dad did nothing to make it easy for him with his past behaviour & book details revelations. Ican understand his decision & just wish him the best.

  5. Yeah, he just didnt want the pressure of the ablett name, and everyone expecting him to be as big a star as his dad was.

Pity though he had skills maybe he will still come back to AFL he actaully mentioned that it was just for the moment

  6. Whats the point of playing VFL, play the highest you can or leave the sport altogether.

  7. While it seems like a shock to many, those who know their AFL history should not be surprised. Why you ask?? because his father did it to both Hawthorn and Geelong on a number of occasions. Gary Sr. walked out on Hawthorn when he couldnt take the city life, and walked out on Geelong 2 or 3 times before finally retiring for good.

it would seem that Nathan has followed in his fathers footsteps and walked away. He could learn to follow the example set by his brother. He has it worse - he carries his dad's name as well, and he overcame that and look at the player he has become. Nathan just needs to knuckle down and keep working on his game, instead of just giving up because it didnt all go his way.

  8. Last year I heard Rex Hunt on the radio and he was talking about some players who just play football (of all codes) because they are good at it and can make a lot of money - not becasue they love the game.

Rex gave the example of how after playing on Saturday, he would go and watch the local football with his mates on Sunday and coach junior teamduring the week because he loved footie.A number of players wouldn't do that now because they don't love the game -it's just a job where they have a talent.

Maybe Nathan falls into this category.

  9. I agree entirely with you on this one. Watching him play at the dome last year, was disappointing to say the least. His heart wasnt in it then.

Perhaps maybe the legacy of his father has put to much pressure on him and he doesnt want to be in the media and also be compared to his brother. Which I must say the media do so well.

Its a shame really he had so much going for him. Perhaps injuries maybe a reason as well who knows but Nathan.

I think sometimes that some professional athletes cant take the heat and have to get out for a while. Then come back bigger and better then before. Maybe he is also one of these?

Dont know, but I do wish him all the best.

  10. It's just stupid, He should at least play for this year.

  11. you mean ablett, i presume, sorry, yes as another contributor said, you should try to play at the highest level, but then i can why he has quit, some guys just cant commit, correct ladies, anyway, its up to him, we shouldn't judge.

and I'm not sure if they can put a rookie in jonesy, sorry can not help you there. all the best to the young man.

  12. I was shocked actually cause he's so young still.

Maybe he felt he can't live up to his dads standards and felt the pressure to do so.

    Good Luck to him!!!!
