  1. Ablett is a borderline player that probably wouldnt have got many games next year anyway. Why is everyone carrying on like he was the reigning brownlow medalist or a champion footballer or something? He wont be missed.

  2. While it seems like a shock to many, those who know their AFL history should not be surprised. Why you ask?? because his father did it to both Hawthorn and Geelong on a number of occasions. Gary Sr. walked out on Hawthorn when he couldnt take the city life, and walked out on Geelong 2 or 3 times before finally retiring for good.

it would seem that Nathan has followed in his fathers footsteps and walked away. He could learn to follow the example set by his brother. He has it worse - he carries his dad's name as well, and he overcame that and look at the player he has become. Nathan just needs to knuckle down and keep working on his game, instead of just giving up because it didnt all go his way.

  3. I KNOW!!!!!  My goodness.

    So young.

Oh well ,better for the other teams though.lol

  4. Good luck to him. I hope he finds what he is looking for outside football because he is throwing away a great future.

He was very lucky to win a premiership in such a short career.

  5. I can't believe it hun, A kid with so much to show and give, Why did he do it? It must be the pressure he sufferring from, Nathan is young and may be he can not cope with all the pressure to AFL footy and with his famous dad always in the news, that won't help him at all.

  6. Wow that is just a decision that he could regret in the future.

  7. yes my cobber, jonsey boy, asked this question but got the spelling wrong, silly bugger, think its all been covered, but it seems a waste but you can't force some one to play if they dont want to, he may play down the track, not this year though i feel, wouldnt know, just my thoughts.

  8. Its sad as he had such promise and was destined for a great career.

He lost the passion for the game which caused him to retire.  But he is still young and with a little encouragement and maturity he might make a come back.

I guess its hard living up to your famous father and brother.

  9. well he will be missed ,he is a good footballer .as his father was a great player as well in the history books maybe nathan will find is way there as well cheers nathan you r a great footballer.

  10. Hope he doesn't regret it later on in life!

  11. uh roguerage u dont think we no he lost passion for the game and your a top contributor god haha

    anyways back to the subject

i dont no what you guys are raving about he wasnt a hugely great player he was average there will be another player like that playing for richmond or carlton in a couple of years u watch he isnt that good

  12. i was very surprised with this. having just won a premiership last september too, i wouldve thought the passion would still be there after that. however,i wouldnt be surprised if he came back in a year or two.

  13. My first reaction was surprised

Now my thoughts its more like he may have different goals other than playing in a AFL team, its is a full time job

He may want to do something else, Ive changed my job a few times

I would like a AFL premiership medal in my undie draw

    Good luck to Nathan

  14. Its a waste but he will still be playing VFL football, but i think Geelong have a ready made replacement for Ablett, Tom Hawkins is ready to step right into the side

  15. this is a young guy who has had football rammed down his throat all his life.

IT is his life and if he feels the need to walk away from the game then that is his business... He grew up with his father's , uncle's ( both Tuck and Ablett) playing the game ... it must have been a pressure all his life with people expecting so much ....

maybe he just wants to play for the pleasure of the game .. and not have to contend with the demands of football on an AFL level ..

GOOD LUCK TO HIM .. may he find stability that seems to have abandoned his father.
