Nathan Adrian conquers Men’s 100m freestyle heats – 2012 London Olympic Games
Nathan Adrian of USA conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle on fourth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, July 31.
The 23-year-old Adrian went full rampant in the double lap freestyle discipline as he overpowered the arena’s favourite, James Magnussen in a comfortable manner. The American showed no mercy to his opponents from the start and earned his way into the semi-finals as top fastest swimmer.
With his continuous efforts, Adrian enjoyed a marginal lead over his strongest challenger and touched the wall with the timing of 48.19 seconds.
He was followed by Gideon Louw of South Africa, who stayed only 0.10 seconds slower from him and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 48.29 seconds for second position.
Similarly, Louw was followed by Sebastiaan Verschuren of Netherlands, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 48.37 seconds for third position.
Fourth finest qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Australian veteran, Magnussen, who was 0.01 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 48.38 seconds.
The 21-year-old Magnussen remained 0.15 seconds ahead of Brent Hayden of Canada, who proved his eligibility for fifth fastest spot of the discipline by hitting the wall with an effort of 48.53 seconds.
Following that, the spectators witnessed exhausting struggles of Cayman Islands' Brett Fraser and Pieter Timmers of Belgium, who tried hard to overpass each other on the finishing end but transpired on the finishing blockade for sixth position with identical efforts of 48.54 seconds.
Eighth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Nikita Lobintsev of Russian Federation, who stayed only 0.06 seconds behind and posted a time of 48.60 seconds.
Similarly, Lobintsev was followed by Cullen Jones of USA, who finished ninth in the event with an effort of 48.61 seconds while the defending champion of the event, Cesar Cielo of Brazil qualified as tenth fastest swimmer with a 48.67 seconds effort.
Furthermore, Adrian was happy with his fastest finish in the event and said that he would try to continue the same in semi-finals.
