Nathan Adrian seizes Men’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 London Olympic Games
Nathan Adrian of USA seized gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, August 1.
The 23-year-old Adrian faced tough competition from James Magnussen of Australia throughout the discipline but with his unrelenting efforts, Adrian hit the finishing wall for first position.
Magnussen dominated the semi-finals of double-lap freestyle event but failed to sustain his spot in the playoff and finished second behind Adrian. The American swimmer remained just a touch ahead of his closest competitor and occupied gold medal of the discipline
with the timing of 47.52 seconds.
His gold claiming effort was only 0.01 seconds ahead of Magnussen, who reached the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 47.53 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Brent Hayden of Canada, who captured bronze medal of the event by finishing his swim in a time of 47.80 seconds.
Subsequently, Hayden was followed by Yannick Agnel of France, who stayed just 0.04 seconds slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 47.84 seconds.
Agnel was trailed by Sebastiaan Verschuren of Netherlands, who was only an inch behind and completed his race in fifth place by posting a time of 47.88 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by defending champion and world mark holder, Cesar Cielo of Brazil, who failed to substantiate on the medal rostrum and clocked a time of 47.92 seconds.
The Brazilian was traced by Hanser Garcia of Cuba, who was 0.12 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall as seventh best swimmer with the timing of 48.04 seconds.
Garcia was chased by Nikita Lobintsev of Russian Federation, who stayed nearly half body length behind and completed his swim in a time of 48.44 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Adrian was stunned with his gold accomplishment in the 100m discipline and articulated that he would try to break the world record of the event at the forthcoming tournaments.
