Nathan Capp earns Men’s 400m IM gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Nathan Capp of Greerton earned gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on last day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Thursday, March 21.
The 20-year-old Capp enjoyed a comfortable lead over his opponents from the start and with his invincible pace; he managed to secure the title. He faced no competition from his closest swimmer in the distant IM discipline and raked the title.
With his astonishing pace, he enjoyed a two body length lead over his following swimmer and hit the wall for gold medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 22.50 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming, who stayed 2.10 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.60 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Bradlees Ashby of Fairfield Swimming Club, who was 0.09 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.69 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Nick Gillum of Capital Swim Club, who was almost three seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 27.92 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Carsten Corazza of Howick Pakuranga, who stayed almost four seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 31.48 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Wilrich Coetzee of Coast Swim Club, who was 3.16 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 33.64 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Matthew Glassford of Neptune Swimming Club, who was almost two body lengths slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 35.96 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Liam Albery of Capital Swim Club, who was 0.87 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 36.83 seconds.
In addition, the winners collected medals at the prize ceremony of the event.
