Nathan Cleverly: I want a convincing win over Robin Krasniqi before fighting Bernard Hopkins - Boxing News
Nathan Cleverly, who will defend his prestigious WBO light heavyweight gold against Robin Krasniqi in a 12-round fight on April 28, 2012, broke his silence saying that he does not want to show any kind of weakness in his upcoming bout.
He then said that he wants to be at his best if he desires to take on Bernard Hopkins, the WBC light heavyweight champion.
Cleverly and Robin will headline Frank Warren’s pay-per-view and will clash in the ring stretched at Royal Albert Hall situated in Kensington, London, United Kingdom. The night will be co-headlined by the title eliminator bout between Sam Webb and Matthew
Hall.
Nathan, 25, has been in a total 24 bouts and has successfully won all of them, constituting a long intimidating win streak. He has nailed 11 of his opponents by knockout and became the owner of the WBO gold by collecting a unanimous decision win against
Nadjib Mohammedi.
Since then, he has authoritatively defend his gold against Aleksy Kuziemski, Tony Bellew, and Tommy Karpency and will most probably do the same for the fourth time against Robin. At the moment, Nathan is being considered favourite over the German Krasniqi.
Robin is not a weak opponent who does not have the ability to nail quality opponents but he has not fought men of high calibre. He has been in a total 39 bouts and boasts 37 wins, 13 of them by knockout.
Robin has proudly held WBO European light heavyweight gold and this is the first time that he will compete for the apex divisional gold. A keen look at the stats and resume of both pugilists clearly shows that Nathan will defend his gold and Robin most probably
will not be able to create an upset.
In a recent interview, Nathan commented, “It’s a world title fight so anything can happen. I have to be careful and be at the top of my game to keep my dream of fighting Bernard Hopkins in the summer alive. It’s easy to get complacent in boxing so it’s important
I focus on one fight at a time. This fight is crucial.”
When asked as to what he thinks about his future unification bout with Bernard Hopkins, Nathan commented, “The promoters have got together and most notably, myself and Hopkins has been highly talked of. That would be special, to bring an event like that
to Wales.”
This is a golden chance for Nathan and if he wins over Robin authoritatively and quite convincingly the Bernard Hopkins extravaganza will definitely get finalised.
