Nathan Cleverly anxious to step into the ring with Tony Bellew – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Organisation light heavyweight world champion, Nathan Cleverly, is anxious to get into the ring against his bitter rival Tony Bellew who is the reigning Commonwealth light heavyweight champion.
The Welsh pugilist, Cleverly, who will step in the ring with Bellew in a much-anticipated bout for the WBO Light Heavyweight Title on October 15, 2011 at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, told the media that he does not want to do any trash-talk ahead of
his fight, as he said he wants to prove himself in the ring.
“The ring is where the real talking begins – with our fists. That’s the way the fight will be sorted. All the talking has been done and now I’m just looking forward to stepping back in the ring. It doesn’t matter what I say, all that matters from here on
in is what I do on the night,” he said.
The Wavertree Bomber, Bellew, also responded to Cleverly’s comments. Bellew admitted Cleverly is a very skilled fighter but on the same note he claimed he will prove to be the toughest opponent for Cleverly.
Bellew, 28, said, “Nathan’s got fast feet and good hands with a good variety of punches. However, there is nothing from him that I haven’t seen before. It’s the biggest fight so far for both of us. I’m the best opponent he’s faced.”
Cleverly and Bellew were scheduled to meet each other back in May 2011 but the fight could not happen as Bellew failed to make the weight and as a result he was ruled out. However, their May 21 press conference where both fighters literally fought each other
is still remembered by many.
Moreover, both boxers have never been defeated in the ring before. Cleverly holds an undefeated record of winning all of his 22 professional fights, with 11 of them coming by the way of a knockout whereas Bellew has won all of his 16 professional fights
including 10 of them by the way of a knockout. Therefore, it is fair to say their bout will certainly be an explosive one.
