Nathan Cleverly claims he is going to stay undefeated against bitter rival Tony Bellew – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Organisation light heavyweight champion, Nathan Cleverly, has claimed nothing will change for him in his much-anticipated bout with the Wavertree Bomber, Tony Bellew, which is going to be held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
The undefeated 24-year-old Welsh professional boxer, Cleverly, who has won all of his 22 professional fights, with 11 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, even called the Liverpudlian pugilist, Tony Bellew, who is also undefeated with 16 wins including
10 coming by the way of a knockout, a stepping stone.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I have got the confidence to take this fight on knowing it is not going to damage my career. It is one of those fights that is a stepping stone. But I've got no issue with that. I didn't have to take the fight,
I didn't have to come to Liverpool. I could have gone a different route.”
“I am a born winner and the outcome is going to remain the same, I am going to stay undefeated,” he added.
Cleverly, who is also the former European, British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion, in the end also thinks Bellew has only got a chance with him because of his trash talking.
Nathan Cleverly and the 28-year-old Brit, Tony Bellew – a late replacement for Jurgen Brahmer – were previously scheduled in May 2011 but Bellew was disqualified as he ran out of time to make the required weight. However, the boxers nearly came down to exchanging
blows before the security personnel had to separate them in their press conference.
Therefore, Nathan reckons Bellew knows he earned the fight because of gaining disrepute at the press conference.
Cleverly stated, “I think Tony's talking earned the fight - he knows that. That's why he acted like he did in the press conference.”
There is not much time left now when people will see both undefeated prospects taking on each other. Let’s see whether Cleverly can really shrug off Bellew or not.
