Nathan Cleverly says Tony Bellew is a disrespectful fighter – Boxing news
Nathan Cleverly has termed the 28-year-old Tony Bellew a disrespectful fighter with a loud mouth in his interview with a leading sports channel.
Both old rivals, Cleverly and Bellew, are set to meet in a mega fight for the World Boxing Organization Light-Heavyweight title on the Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the O2 Arena in London. Cleverly’s fight with Bellew was set up following Wednesday’s event,
when Juergen Braehmer disgracefully pulled out of his fight due to a cut on the eye and failing to reach London.
Cleverly said, “For a couple of years now, that guy (Bellew) has called me out, when I was Commonwealth champion, British champion, European champion he was calling me out. I find him a disrespectful fighter with a loud mouth. I have a final chance on Saturday
to settle the score and get this guy out of the way.”
The 24-year-old Cleverly added that he will have to refocus himself against Bellew.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “He has a different style from Braehmer so I have to change my gameplan. I have been preparing for a south paw in Braehmer and Bellew is an orthodox fighter.”
However on the same note he remarked, “But when you are a boxer you have to adapt to all styles.”
The Welshman Cleverly claimed he will be prepared to deal with all the techniques which Bellew will bring in the ring. He also vowed he is going to knock him out.
The Wavertree Bomber Bellew on the other side has also given a similar statement. He said he is going to knock Cleverly out cold. He also reckons he can beat Cleverly anytime.
It is going to be an explosive fight for sure, as both fighters have never been defeated by any one as of yet.
On the other hand, James DeGale’s grudge match with George Groves on the same evening promises another exciting day for world boxing.
