Nathan Cleverly sparring with David Haye and George Groves ahead of clash with Tony Bellew – Boxing
The current World Boxing Organisation’s light heavyweight world champion, Nathan Cleverly, is preparing for rival Tony Bellew by sparring with the reigning British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, George Groves, and the former World Boxing Association world heavyweight champion, David Haye.
The 24-year-old Welshman, Cleverly, who will mix it up with the reigning Commonwealth light heavyweight champion, Tony Bellew, for his second WBO light heavyweight world title defence on Saturday, October 15, with a still-to-be-decided venue in Wales, told the media he is enjoying his sparring session.
“I am heading to London for a sparring camp with George Groves and David Haye and I don’t really see how it can get any better than that,” he is quoted by the South Wales Argus to have said recently.
The 28-year-old Englishman Tony ‘The Wavertree Bomber’ Bellew on the other side has picked up Cleverly’s former gym partner, Enzo Maccarinelli. Cleverly also admitted that he was upset after hearing the news about Maccarinelli joining the Bellew camp.
Cleverly stated that Maccarinelli was a friend and Bellew had tried to astute by picking up his ex-gym partner. On the same note, the pugilist remarked that he is not letting anything to his nerves, as the Welsh boxer thinks Groves and Haye are in a totally different class.
“I see that Tony Bellew and Enzo Maccarinelli think they are being smart teaming up against me,” Cleverly noted. “Enzo was a friend of mine but that’s how it goes sometimes in boxing. Groves is a different league, a different class and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t upset about the situation with Enzo.”
Both Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew have never been defeated in the ring as of yet. Thus a clash between them is certainly going to pull a huge crowd. Moreover both boxers have previously been involved in a lot of heated verbal sessions, especially in their May 21, pre-fight press conference where both men literally fought each other. So it is also fair to say that this bout is going to be an explosive one as well.
