Nathan Cleverly vows to teach Tony Bellew a lesson – Boxing news
Nathan Cleverly, who is the current World Boxing Organisation light heavyweight world champion, has vowed to teach the reigning British and Commonwealth champion, Tony Bellew, a lesson in the ring.
The Welshman, Cleverly, is set to take on his bitter rival Tony ‘the Wavertree Bomber’ Bellew this weekend on October 15, 2011 in a much-anticipated 12-round bout at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, Merseyside and he has claimed he will prove himself a worthy
world champion.
The 24-year-old undefeated Welsh prospect, Cleverly, who carries a perfect record of winning all of his 22 professional fights, including 11 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, knows his opponent will have home crowd advantage, as the fight is happening
in his backyard. Therefore Cleverly reckons it will be an explosive fight.
“With the fight in his back yard it might be a bit hostile,” conceded Cleverly. “But it’s just a ring and it’s only what happens in the ring that matters. I’ve been in the deep zone for some time now, I can’t wait to teach him a lesson and prove I’m a worthy
world champion.”
In the end Cleverly revealed he is aiming to unify the light heavyweight division and for that he is eyeing a mega showdown with the Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who is the current World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion of the world.
“I’ve built up great momentum on my title run and I’ve basically achieved my dream now. Once I do a real good job in Liverpool we can look to unify the light-heavyweight division. The sky’s the limit then and Hopkins would be a dream fight,” Cleverly added.
The 28-year-old Bellew has also never been defeated in the ring as of yet. He has won all of his 16 professional fights thus far, with 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
Therefore, it is fair to say that a bout between these two will have all the hallmarks of being an absolute classic. However, let’s see if Cleverly can really shrug off Bellew in the ring.
