Nathan Cleverly wants Welsh boxing on top again – Boxing News
WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly is sure-footed that he can take Welsh boxing on the acme of success once again. Cleverly is scheduled to meet Tommy Karpency in the ring on Saturday, February 25, at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff.
It should be noted here that this would be Nathan’s first fight in four years in his home country. In addition, this bout will be the first ever world title bout in Wales since Joe Calzaghe vs. Mikkel Kessler in 2007.
For Nathan, this is an excellent opportunity to make his nation proud. When asked about his opinions, the 25-year-old said, “This is a very special occasion for me and for Welsh boxing... a chance to bring the glory days back to Welsh boxing. I am really
looking forward to the occasion. It is a great weekend of sport with Wales playing England in the Six Nations and Cardiff in the Carling Cup final.  It's special for such a small country like Wales to stage world championship boxing. It's great for the nation,
the fans and myself to be involved.  For Welsh sport in general it is a massive weekend for us. We have got a major event in rugby, a major event in boxing and the football the next day."
Right now, Nathan is the only world champion belonging to Britain, since Amir Khan, David Haye and Carl Froch lost their respective titles last year.
Nathan said that for him bringing world championship boxing back to Wales is an aim of crucial importance and he is highly determined to achieve it. He further added that he will try his level best to put up a world championship performance this weekend
for the world to see and enjoy, while he will be making his nation proud.
Throughout the interview, Cleverly seemed confident. He mentioned that the biggest inspiration of his career has been Calzaghe who retired as an undefeated fighter after winning 46 bouts. By now, Cleverly has won 23 bouts and has lost none. He is confident
that he will hold onto his winning streak no matter whoever comes in as his opponent.
