Nathan Curran and Glenn Hall to square-off for Mr Price Pro Ballito Title
America’s Nathaniel Curran and Ireland’s Glenn Hall earned themselves a title shot at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito after getting walking away with top honours from their respective semi-final heats that went down
at Willard Beach in KwaDukuza, South Africa, on Sunday, July 8.
Curran brought an end to what was an excellent run by Brazil’s Adriano de Souza in the first Semi-final t advance through into the final stage of the competition, while removing his rival from the contention for the event title.
The second Semi-final saw Hall barely get the better of America’s Nat Young to secure his place in the final, bringing the competition to a premature end for his rival.
The final day of the latest ASP Prime event saw 1.5 metre waves on offer at the primary event site. With the solid surfing conditions on hand, there was a really good reason for the crowd to become witness to a series of enthralling battles between some
of the best surfers from around the globe.
The first Semi-final pitted Curran and De Souza against each other in a man-on-man battle for a spot in the final. While Curran’s form was nothing short of impressive, De Souza, current ASP World No.4, had been on fire since the very first round.
As the heat got underway, both the surfers got off to a solid start. The Brazilian powerhouse collected a couple of decent waves to finish with a heat-total of 11.00 points, but his efforts proved inadequate as Curran responded with a two-wave total of 12.10
points, consequently eliminating De Souza from the competition.
“I’m disappointed not to be in the Final but it’s still a good result,” De Souza said. “I came here without any pressure and Nathaniel was surfing better than me so he deserves to be in the Final. I’ll be here watching the best two guys in the event battle
it out in the Final and may the best man win.”
The second Semi-final featured an intense battle between Hall and Young, with both surfers fighting to get their hands on victory until the very last minute of the battle.
As the dust settled, Hall stood victorious with a heat-total of 14.67 points against his rival’s 14.50. An equal finish in the competition turned out to be the best result for Young this year.
