Nathan Haas sets his eyes at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour champion 2013
Nathan Haas is all set to kick-off the new season at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour that will start in Williamstown on January 3rd, 2013 after his heroic performance during the 2011 edition of the race.
Haas had an outstanding 2011 season and managed to claim an overall victory at the Australian race, along with several other top performances.
He also won the Japan Cup, a stage 10 and an overall victory at the Tour of Tasmania along with a second place finish at the U-23 National Road Race Championships 2011.
The Australian could not really justify his talent in the current season with his only commendable performance being a second overall finish at the Tour of Britain 2012.
He is positive for the coming race and hopes to leave the 2012 dream behind as he sets his eyes at this year’s four-day race.
Haas will ride along the Vuelta a Espana King of Mountains winner, Simon Clarke and the two-time winner, Simon Gerrans in the Australian National team.
"For me it's awesome, I would not have missed it for the world. To be given a spot on the Australian team, well it's really nice to be considered for that," said Hass.
He further added, "It's a great race to be part of a winning team and I remember the vibe my team had and the spirit it gave the group after we won it last year, it was like nothing I had ever felt before".
"January is really early to be firing, my calendar has been worked more toward April and May,” he concluded.
The 23-year-old started riding with the Amateur side, Team Praties in 2009 and stayed with the team by the end of 2011 season.
The cyclist marked his World Tour debut with Team Garmin-Barracuda in 2012 and is all set to continue his second professional season with the team.
Haas also expects to ride the Australian National Championships in Ballarat after the Herald Sun Tour where he will be part of the strong Team Garmin-Sharp for the new season and is hopeful to find the right momentum early on the season.
