Nathan Haas will have ‘nothing to lose’ at the Tour of Tasmania 2011 – Cycling News
Tour of Tasmania is starting on October 4, 2011 and the stage race will conclude after five days, on October 9. There will be 10 stages in the event and the race will begin with an 18.1 kilometre team time trial.
Later on this month the Australian Jayco Herald Sun Tour is also attracting the cyclists from across the globe. Australian cyclist Nathan Haas is participating at the Tour of Tasmania and he is looking to win the event. He feels that he is anything short
of winning, he will quit the race.
Haas believes that if he cannot win the Tour of Tasmania he will head back to Australia without wasting any time and prepare for his home tour, Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2011. Nathan is keen to race at his home tour starting just three days after the Tour of
Tasmania as he is ready to give his best shot. The Australian participated at the last version of Tour of Tasmania and his performance was good enough to make him a serious general classification contender this year. Tour of Tasmania 2010 was organised from
September 16-21, 2010 and he managed to win the most difficult stage 9 of the race.
Nathan finished the 78.5 kilometre stage 9 of the race in a total time of 1:57:09 as Cameron Jennings was second and Chris Jory finished at the third position. He also won the sprint 2,4,5,7 and 8 of the race and was brilliant at the mountains. His all round
performance won him the Most Aggressive Rider Award during stage 9 of the race. Nathan was at the 13th position during the stage 9 general classifications as he finished the Tour of Tasmania 2010 in 14th position after the final general
classifications. Haas was 23 minutes and 49 seconds behind the race leader Gordon Mccauley as George Bennett was second and Rhys Pollock finished in third position.
The 22-year-old believes that this is his best chance to win the general classifications as he is supported by a strong team. He said, “I think this is probably my last real chance to win the Tour with the team behind me so I'm going down with 100 per cent
commitment to winning this Tour. If I come second that's okay but the only result that I can walk away with completely satisfied with is by winning. I really, really want to do well."
Nathan will be riding under the Tasmanian team Genesys and will be accompanied by Shaw, Von Hoff, Anthony Giacoppo, Thomas Robinson, Calvin Watson, Jason Rigg, Kane Walker, Nathan Earle and Campbell Flakemore. Riding under team Genesys surely gives the home
turf advantage as the team is considered as a local team despite the fact that most of the riders are from different parts of the world.
