Nathan Hauritz claims he is better than Xavier Doherty ahead of The Ashes
Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz regards himself to be better than debutant Xavier Doherty, the other Australian spin bowler.
Both of them have been included in the Ashes preliminary squad. The much criticised 17 man squad consists of both the bowlers but of course there will be only one place for the spin bowlers.
Australia’s most improved players in recent times thinks he is “definitely better” than Doherty as he has more experience but he is focused to prove himself in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 on Wednesday, 17th November.
Hauritz has been given an ultimatum by the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 selectors to prove his form’s output. Doherty’s sudden inclusion to the Ashes squad has given Hauritz extra pressure to fight for his place in the first Test match squad. Both the players will
be battling it out as they would go head to head during the Sheffield Shield match on Wednesday.
He admitted that he feels the pressure mounting on him as he feels the spotlight is on him and that now “the ball could be in anyone’s court”. He said that the reason he wants to play for Australia is because you would be able to learn to be “tough” as you
are thrown in to “deal with the pressure”.
Hauritz also said that in his head, he is a “better bowler” but he later conceded that his “opinion doesn’t matter unfortunately” when it comes to deciding the final squad.
He, however, did admit that sometimes he wished the pressure “wasn’t there” but it is part and parcel of the Ashes.
Hauritz’s competitor Doherty showed immense potential when he was included in the One Day line-up of Australia against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 early this month. He is in a good position right now and the last decision would depend upon his performance at Wednesday’s showdown.
Doherty was surprised by his inclusion in the squad saying that he felt as a “man in demand” but he knew that this week’s performance would be everything that would matter for the final squad.
The 17 man squad is expected to be trimmed down to a 12 or 13 man squad by the end of this week.
