Nathan Hauritz follows Mike Hussey in the injury list
Nathan Hauritz, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s right-arm off-spinner left the field in agonizing pain as he dislocated his shoulder during the second One Day International of the ongoing series between Australia and England in Hobart on Friday.
England were in shambles while chasing the 230-run target set by the Australians. Things were going smooth and steady for the hosts in the field until Michael Yardy played the ball onto the leg side. While trying to stop the ball
from reaching the boundary, Hauritz slid across, tumbled and caved into the ground in agony.
Horry’s teammates gathered quickly around him and called for medical help right away. After spending several minutes on the field with the Physiotherapist, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123, he was finally able to steady himself and walk off the
field still in distress.
Media reports suggest that Nathan dislocated his right shoulder, but the true extent of the injury will only be known once the scans have been examined. However, things are not looking good for the 29-year-old off-spinner.
Hauritz did not have an eventful summer as he was dropped from the side for the Ashes series. It was reported that the right-arm spinner was so disgusted that he even sold off his match-kit in order to register a protest.
His selection in the 15-men World Cup squad came as a surprise and he was called back to play the second ODI against England in Hobart. He is the only specialist spinner in the Aussie line-up for the mega event. Xavier Doherty,
being the preferred choice of Australian selectors in the Ashes series failed to make an impression and even though he was part of the first ODI, he was dropped from the World Cup squad and replaced by Hauritz in the next game.
The pitches in sub-continent are known to be spinner-friendly. Considering the fact that his counterpart’s (Doherty) performance has been below par, Nathan’s ouster from the World Cup could cost the team dearly as the Aussies lack
a quality spinner in their playing 11.
Adding to the injury woes, Shaun Tait also walked off the field at the end of his sixth over before bowling the final ball. He is reported to be suffering from a groin strain.
With skipper, Ricky Ponting already out of the side due to a finger injury and star batsman Mike Hussey’s appearance in the World Cup also being termed as doubtful due to a serious hamstring injury, today’s addition to the injury
list has done no good to Australia’s concerns if not any harm.
