Nathan Hindmarsh of Parramatta Eels closing in on his third milestone of the year - Rugby
Parramatta Eels’ skipper, Nathan Hindmarsh, is about to stud his ongoing season with yet another milestone by adding a 30km run. The record 10,000 tackles and playing the 300th first grade game are all achievements already under his belt.
After bagging two milestones this year, Hindmarsh is closing in on his third of the year. The 30km run mark is only falling short by 124 metres that will make him the fourth National Rugby League (NRL) player to have reached this achievement. The other three
players who have reached this point in NRL history includes; Steve Price (31,600 m), Luke Patten (33,134 m) and Petero Civoniceva (35,431 m). Statistics reveal that apart from Hindy, two more are expected to join the clan this season including Anthony Minichiello
and Rhys Wesser with 29,685 m and 29,560 m respectively.
Aware of his unique achievement, Hindmarsh mentioned that this will be a source of pride for him, once he wraps up his 14-year-old rugby league career.  He stated, “At the moment they are stats tha. Sure a little light goes off in your head and you think
‘oh that’s nice’, but it’s just a stat. I think that when I look back on my career when I’ve retired I’ll think, ‘that’s not too bad, I’m happy with that’.”
He further mentioned that he is the sort of person who focuses more on his next games in line, sidelining the rare accomplishments.
Amidst his personal achievements, there is a decline recorded in his mean 125.24 metres per game scored by him in 2004. These figures slipped down to 85.39 metres in 2010. However, in comparison to the last year’s statistics, there is improvement shown by
the Parramatta’s skipper with 91.32metres per game in 2011, but he is unable to reach back to his highest mark which dates back to 2004.
While commenting on the recent drop in his performance, he revealed that with the improvement in his attacking side his running speed has suffered a lot. Hindy acknowledged that his strength is his defence and he couples it with the support he has to offer
to other players when the ball lands in his hands.
