Australian selectors have called spinner Nathan Lyon back into the side that will face India in the fourth and final Test of the series, starting at the Adelaide Oval tomorrow, January 24, 2012. Pace bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 made way for the right-arm off-spinner.
The hosts have already won the series with an invincible 3-0 lead and are looking forward to inflicting a 4-0 whitewash on the former Test number one side, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, with an equally comprehensive win at Adelaide this week.
In the first two Tests of the series, Australia played a three-pronged pace attack with spinner Nathan Lyon being the only specialist spinner in the side. But in the last Test at Perth, the home side fielded an all-pace attack calling in Mitchell Starc at
the cost of Lyon. Australia won that Test by an innings and 37 runs.
However, the Adelaide wicket is known for assisting spin bowlers in the latter stages of the game. The pitch is also expected to be more conducive to batting, so a spinner would be required to contain the hard-hitters at one end, with pacers attacking the
other. Keeping that in mind, the Australian selectors dropped left-arm pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978’s part time spin will complement Lyon in the slow bowling department.
Michael Clarke has expressed confidence in Lyon and hopes the 27-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 off-spinner clicks at Adelaide after struggling for wickets at Melbourne and Sydney.
"I definitely have a lot of confidence in Lyon...I would love to see him go out and perform like he has done for Australia since his debut," said Clarke.
"Nathan knows these conditions as good as anyone, he has played enough cricket here and I think he'll play an important role here in helping us trying to win this Test match," he added further.
The three pacers in the side are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204. Out of sixty Indian wickets to fall in this series, only three have fallen victim to spin bowling.
