Slated to take his place for the fourth and final Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Adelaide, Australian spinner, Nathan Lyon is utilizing the time to improve his bowling by taking advice from veteran, Ricky Ponting.
The spinner was dropped from the third five-day game at Perth after the hosts preferred to play four pacers, all of whom bowled well in tandem to roll over the their opponents inside three days.
However, the Adelaide bout will see the return of Lyon at the expense of one of the seamers and the Aussie off-break bowler is making the most of the extra break by bowling for long hours in the net.
His chief consultant has been Ponting, who despite relinquishing his captaincy, has grown well into his new role of giving advice to the younger blokes. With close to 13000 runs in Test cricket, Punter surely provides a superlative insight of how to go about bowling to the best in World cricket.
"I'm just trying to keep executing my stock ball to the best of my ability," Lyon said. "Of course changes of pace and natural variation all come into it, but I've been working hard with Ricky Ponting especially on my bowling in the nets and bowling to him, because I find him one of the best bats to bowl to in the nets.
Lyon has been able to pick up just two wickets in a series dominated by the fast bowlers. While the first two bouts at the MCG and SCG offered limited assistance to spinners, the final game is expected to be played on a relatively flat track, enabling the slow bowlers to become more effective in the latter parts of the game.
The Indians have endured a turbulent fate – going 3-0 down in the series with all matches finishing inside the allotted five days. The Aussie spinner however feels that the final game will provide a better chance for the opponents to stretch his team but is confident of performing well on his home turf.
"I'm pretty positive this one is going to go five days and it's going to be a pretty hard tussle for us," Lyon said. "The pitch is only going to get slower and lower, so hopefully it'll have a little bit more turn out there for me.”
