Nathan Lyon is out of form and struggling with technique: Geoff Lawson – Cricket News Update
Referring to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Francis-Lawson-c58815, has stressed the need to bring the spinner back to form before the Aussies face off against the West Indies for their second Test of the ongoing 3-match series, due to
commence at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on April 15.
“Lyon is out of form and his mechanics are all wrong at the moment," Lawson observed. “That comes from not doing much bowling.”
Lyon, who made an impressive Test debut in August 2011 against Sri Lanka at Galle, and claimed 5 for 34 during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in
December 2011/January 2012, during which he managed to claim a total of 7 wickets in 3 Tests, the 24-year-old’s appearances for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 became sporadic.
He played briefly for Southern Australia in the domestic circuit, before being brought back into the squad for last final for the Commonwealth Bank series against Sri Lanka on March 8, during which he managed  0 for 36. Another erratic callback followed,
as he was roped in for the 3rd ODI against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 on March 20, during which he claimed 1 for 41.
His performances during the tour match against the West Indies Cricket Board President's XI were considerably better, involving a 1/54 and 4/17. However, the inability to play for the squad consistently appears to have taken its toll, and the spinner only
managed to contribute 1 for 113 in the previous Test.
Commenting on Lyon’s bowling action, Lawson pointed out that his technique was flawed.
“He hasn't played Test cricket since January. He's just bowling with his arm not his body.”
Windies off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancelot-Richard-Gibbs-c72187 had similar comments regarding Lyon’s bowling, claiming that he needed to use his whole body in order to generate more spin.
“In the finish of his action he needs to cut his body in half as much as he can, give it everything with each delivery,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021. “His line and length is quite good, I could not judge too much about how he varies his pace, but in the finish of his action
he seemed to be lacking something.”
Lyon has an upcoming chance to refine his technique at the spin-friendly Queen's Park Oval in the second upcoming Test, which may also feature http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 as team management considers playing two specialist spinners.
