Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen face tough day at Perth: 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championship
Australia’s Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen finished on second spot in the overall standings of 49er after facing a tough 14th day in Perth. The duo suffered from some troubling weather conditions in 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships but
despite the trouble they managed to clinch convincing scores in the end.
The Gold fleet of 49er category sailed in three scheduled races on the Centre course in Fremantle, Australia. The Aussie pair is currently on second podium in the overall standings with 63 points, just two points down to first placed, Great Britain’s John
Pink and Rick Peacock. The Australians were leading in first two races but due to fluctuating winds, they tumbled down to lower places in both meets.
After first two races, the 49er fleet was hit by comparatively heavier winds, which shifted and shuffled the scoreboard a bit. The teams were sent back to shore because the winds were gusting heavily around the race course, which could trouble the fleet.
The 49er teams had to wait for a while to resume proceedings. After the forecast calmed down a bit, the crews returned to the course to commence Race 3. The Australian duo grabbed eighth place after they sprang back into the race.
At the end of the 14th day’s proceedings, Outteridge and Jensen clinched a 10th, fifth and an eighth place and moved up in the leaderboard on second overall spot. The pair hopes to give tough time to the leaders on the penultimate day
of 2011 Perth ISAF Sailing World Championship.
