Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen snatch lead of 49er class: 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Great Britain’s Dave Evans and Ed Powys dominated the 49er fleet standings from the beginning of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta but after the ninth race finished on the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters, Australia’s Nathan Outteridge and Iain
Jensen were able to snatch the lead from the British team.
The Aussie pair sailed impressively in the last couple of races and emerged as the new leader of the result board. The Aussie pair was on lower podium place in the beginning of the regatta but two bullets in the eighth and ninth race brought them on top
of the standings.
Outteridge and Jensen have compiled 22 points after taking part in nine races. As per rules, points of the lowest finish were discarded from the final scores. The former class leaders, Great Britain’s Dave Evans and Ed Powys have tumbled down on third podium
place.
As usual, the wind conditions over the racing area were ideal and supportive for a superb sail. The fleet took advantage of the breeze which was blowing from 12 to 15 knots and completed the programmed races on time.
Overall standings at after nine races:
