Nathan Rhea grabs Boys 200 yard IM gold medal – Swimming news
Nathan Rhea of Tulare Western High School grabbed gold medal of Boys 200 yard Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2013 High School State Swimming Championships (CIF Central Division 2) on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
Rhea stifled hopes of his challengers in the eight-lap IM discipline as he cruised his way towards the finishing end for the title. With his commendable pace, he faced no trouble form his opponents and secured the title.
He enjoyed a lead of three body lengths over his following swimmer a he rushed his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 58.56 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Bryce Matsumura of Edison Tigers, who was 3.065 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall for silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.62 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Brian Bumgarner of Higland High School-CC, who was 2.35 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.97 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Jeremiah Tiemersma of Central Valley Christian-CC, who stayed nearly two and a half body lengths behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 06.21 seconds for fourth place.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Ishaq Ali of Edison Tigers, who was 0.41 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Ali was followed by Brendan Stuart of Hoover High School, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 06.74 seconds for sixth place.
Stuart was followed by Owen Ansel of Kingsburg High School, who was exactly one second behind and concluded his race in a time of 2 minutes and 07.74 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Jimmy Koster of Central Valley Christian-CC, who was two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.81 seconds.
In addition, Rhea was extremely contented with his top finish in the race while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the prize ceremony of the tournament. Furthermore, the gold medallist articulated his desire
of continuing the same at senior levels of swimming.
