Nathan Robertson, Jenny Wallwork shine in 2013 Canadian International Challenge – Badminton news
Mixed Doubles partners Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork of England raised their chances of winning the title of Ottawa Canadian International Challenge by moving into final round on June 28, 2013.
They locked horns with the twosome Hock Lai Lee and Phyllis Chan in local badminton complex of Ottawa where both teams remained head-to-head for 50 minutes. This epic three-set tussle ended with final figures of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16.
Though, the British duo took some time to read the opposing team’s game but it managed to rule the court in ending two games and earned right to play the title match. On the other hand, the partnership of Hock Lai and Phyllis Chan failed to capitalise its
first set win and crashed out of the event in a woeful manner.
The first set of match proved real test for both teams as it kept swinging between them all the way to game point situation. At first, Hock and Phyllis played impeccable badminton and gained a decent advantage on points table.
However, their supremacy was really short lived as their competitors struck hard and tipped the scale in their favour.
Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork remained in commanding position in most part of the game but then there was a sudden twist in the final stage of this saga. The twosome of Hock and Phyllis prevailed in the ending rallies and registered a favourable figure
of 21-19.
The second set of match was played in similar manner but the result was different this time. The British campaigners played with great precision even after the first set blow and turned their rivals’ plans of straight-set victory in dust.
They maintained a decent lead of two points all the way to game point situation and wrapped this segment of showdown with an impressive result of 21-19.
Third set of match proved a one-sided affair as Nathan Robertson-Jenny Wallwork did not give the opposing team even a single counterattack opportunity. They remained couple of steps ahead of their competitors and stole the limelight with 21-16 score on the
board.
Now they will lock horns with Toby Ng-Alex Bruce in title match of Canadian International Challenge.
