Nathan will deliver for us in the long run says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 – Cricket News Update
Despite growing criticism over his inability to take regular wickets, Australian Head Coach, Mickey Arthur, has defended the bowling contributions of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822 before predicting that the spinner will deliver for them in the long run.
Lyon caught the wrath of former spin legends in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Nathan sent in 32 overs, and though 12 of them were maidens, his threat was easily dealt with by the Lankan batters.
Despite his mediocre outing adding more pressure on the remaining bowlers, who also had to cope with the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 who had injured himself in the first innings, the Aussies still managed to record an impressive 137-run victory.
Nonetheless it still prompted MacGill to tweet: "http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 don't need to find another fast bowler ... Nathan Lyon is bowling fast enough to do the job." Murali then added his say by claiming that Lyon does not have the ability to make use of a turning track, and backed his teammates to win the upcoming Test, further picking out the Aussie spinner as a weak link.
However, amidst all the negative talk, Arthur was keen to look at the brighter side and defended Lyon’s record. The off-spinner has taken 56 Test wickets since making his debut last year, and was the team’s leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. Moreover, at 24, his best days are still to come, and for that, the Head Coach is more than happy to wait.
"He's young, he's still finding out about his bowling," Arthur said. "[He has] immense potential though. We're backing Nathan because Nathan will deliver for us in the long run. Spinners only reach their peak at 28 or 29. We've got a 24-year-old who has got over 50 wickets [and was the] leading wicket-taker through the South African series. Nathan is doing everything right. He is working extremely hard. Nathan is a very good bowler and will be a very good bowler for Australia going forward."
The second Test of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka starts tomorrow at the MCG, where Lyon will be hoping to get among the wicket-takers.
