Nathania van Niekerk captures Women’s 200m backstroke title – African Senior Championships
Nathania van Niekerk of RSA-ZZ captured the title of Women’s 200m backstroke on last day of the 11th African Senior Swimming Championships 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday, September 16.
Niekerk spoiled the party of her opponents in the distant backstroke event as she went on a rampage and snared gold medal of the race.
With her impeccable efforts, Niekerk remained in a prominent lead over her competitors from the start and ensured her place on top of the medal rostrum for gold medal.
She remained one and a half body length ahead of her closest swimmer and touched the wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.30 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rene’ D Warnes of RSA-ZZ, who was 1.69 seconds behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 21.99 seconds.
Warnes was chased by Hania Hany Abdelhamid of EGY-ZZ, who was just a stroke away from improving her position on the finishing end and occupied bronze medal of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 22.35 seconds.
Similarly, fourth best qualifying position of the race was secured by Zanre Oberholzer of NAMB-ZZ, who stayed 5.92 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 28.27 seconds.
Oberholzer was chased by Asma Sammod of TUNIS-ZZ, who suffered a loss of one and a half body length and clocked an effort of 2 minutes 29.87 seconds.
Sammod was traced by Farah Ben Khelil of TUNIS-ZZ, who was only 0.05 seconds behind and finished her race in sixth best place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 29.92 seconds.
Ben Khelil was trailed by Marym Rahman EL Sayed of EGY-ZZ, who stayed considerably slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 42.16 seconds.
Last position of the event was traced by Anita Field of KEN-ZZ, who concluded her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 44.97 seconds.
In addition, Niekerk was happy with her effort and received medal after the event.
