I would probably choose the first one because you can expand quite a bit on it.

I have not read this novel, but there are a number of online study guides, and quite a few other resources on the web that can help you with this question.  Most of them have quite a bit of good information.  Have a look at these, and you should get some help with your work.  If you do a search you will find many other links.  Best of luck with it.

If I was writing the essay, I'd choose #2, 4, or 5. I think #2 might be the easiest to write about. #4 doesn't seem too hard, either, but you may have trouble coming up with more than a few short paragraphs on it. And I'd pick #5 only because I've read The Awakening as well as The Scarlet Letter and I'd be able to make comparisons between the two books where appropriate in the essay.

Go with #2. =)
